An intergalactic ninja from the “Nth” Dimension.
Originally created by George Allan at Gremlin Graphics, Zool emerged as one of the defining cult platform releases of the early 1990s, arriving on Sega Mega Drive in 1993 as a true cartridge-era icon.
This 33 Games edition has been conceived as a definitive premium physical release — tastefully archived, historically respectful, and executed with exceptional attention to detail throughout. Featuring artwork redrawn by the original artist, and with every material and presentation choice carefully considered, it has been created to honour the legacy of the original in a form of genuine permanence and distinction.
Archival Detail
This edition of Zool has been created with a deep respect for the game’s Gremlin heritage.
For the visual presentation, 33 Games worked with Ric Lumb, an original early-90s illustrator associated with Zool’s character artwork, to redraw key Zool art for this release — preserving the character’s original attitude while giving the edition a renewed physical identity.
The soundtrack has also been treated as part of the archive. Working with original composer Patrick Phelan, the included cassette features two sides: the original Zool soundtrack on one side, and a newly created remix interpretation on the other.
Paired with A Gremlin in the Works by Mark James Hardisty, this edition brings together artwork, music and historical context to create a release that feels faithful, considered and properly rooted in the story of Gremlin Interactive.
This is not just a return of Zool to physical form. It is a carefully assembled tribute to the people, studio and creative history behind one of the cartridge era’s most distinctive cult characters.
